This essentially means a disturbed psycho can grab any 3 young girls, take them home, lock them in some basement and do with them as he pleases for 10 years without his family, friends, workmates, neighbours etc. ever knowing or suspecting anything strange, is supposedly extremely easy to do and happening today.

I have heard some really strange things and have many times been completely disillusioned by the destructive nature of human kind, but this is surely one of the most bizarre.

The call came in just before 5:00 pm. Somehow they appeared to know of the adsl problem my client had reported to Telkom. The 'repair' guy took my client through some steps on the PC to fix the problem. These steps appeared to land on a page showing a countdown. Mr repair then announces that unless full payment for the pending repair is not received immediately the PC data will be deleted. The closer to 0 the countdown got the more aggressive he became, eventually demanding ID details as well as credit card details. Fortunately full details were not provided, but the episode left my poor client quite disturbed.

Its a bit like drinking contaminated water, which affects our DNA in a way that cannot be measured until its too late. The next generations will evolve or mutate in ways that could be positive or negative. The same can be said regards the continual radiation exposure to mobile phone users. We don't really know at this point, how good or bad the effects are. Cell phone manufacturers will have us believe there is little or no harm, simply because it cannot be proven that it is harmful in some way.

As much as what could be said for the physical side effects of what we eat drink and suffer due to technology exposure, I do however believe that children are at risk when it comes to persistent exposure to what can be best summed up as "socioviral media". Most parents will admit that their children have become phone addicts, but few will assume any damage, simply because there is little evidence to prove any. TV has become a convenient baby sitter, TV games have become a great distraction to allow parents to get some well earned rest and a cell phone in the hands of a child is necessary for many justifiable reasons.

You have heard it before; everything in moderation, but a child above all, should have hopes and dreams. Losing ones ability to dream is a symptom of post traumatic stress syndrome.
